From tires to tequila, Southwest Detroit family finds success in 2 businesses A father’s dream is now the family’s reality
More than 30 years ago, after migrating from Mexico to Detroit, one father’s dream of being a successful business owner not only came true, but turned into two businesses.
“My family comes from an agricultural background from Mexico. We were always into growing agave, the prime ingredient for tequila,” Antonio Lopez said. He said after coming to Detroit, his father and uncle opened Lopez tire shop in Southwest Detroit, but years later would save enough money to buy the families Mexico farm.
Since 2006 the Lopez family has been harvesting agave and distilling their brand Tequila Cabresto. The Tequila is only sold in Michigan and Mexico, and the family has a map on their website with locations to find the exclusive brand.
