Picking a furry friend for your family

Many pets could use a loving home and the one for you may be up for adoption. AnnMarie Chamberlain from Michigan Humane joined “Live in the D” to talk about tips for after you adopt a pet.

“The biggest thing is giving them time to decompress. So, they need some alone time which can mean maybe not having any visitors in the first couple of weeks,” said AnnMarie.

Other tips for helping a long-term shelter animal adapt include:

• Using positive reinforcement
• Making sure they’re getting exercise
• Creating a routine
• Finding a trainer
