The weekend is arriving with the release of multiple heart-racing films.
Movie Plus Reviewer Greg Russell joined “Live in the D” with an inside scoop on all the upcoming thrillers, starting with the John Wick spinoff, “Ballerina.”
“This is a part of the John Wick universe...The first fifteen minutes is where it sets up, the rest is just pure action...The action is what you are there to see,” Russell said.
Meanwhile, “The Rhythm” won LA International Art Film Fest’s Best Indie Film award. This film is all about a Black youth hockey team here in Detroit, directed by Gerald McBride. You can now view this film streaming on Amazon Prime Video, The Roku Channel, and Apple TV.
Finally, another movie just released is Tyler Perry’s film on Netflix, titled “Straw.” The film stars Taraji P. Henson, who plays a single mother whose life quickly turns to chaos, pushing her to her last straw. Detroit native Mike Merrill steps on the screen as Detective Grimes in the new gripping drama. Merrill joined “Live in the D” alongside Russell.
“The story behind this is so crazy — like in a good way. It showed me that keeping my faith is all I had. It is the only thing that I depended on.... If I would have led myself with ego, I would not have made it here,” Merrill said.
