Full-on glam is a look typically reserved for special occasions - a night out on the town, a cocktail party or a birthday celebration. There’s even a slang term, “birthday makeup,” that refers to an elaborate makeup effort, whether appropriate or not.
Local 4 Intern, Brooklynn Miller, and Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan joined “Live in the D” to give a brief minimalist makeup tutorial using just a few simple products.
“I tried my best, Jon,” Miller joked about her previous attempt at a full “birthday” glam look.
While elaborate makeup is always an option, there is also beauty in accentuating a natural look. Jordan and Miller collaborated on a minimalist style using essentials like concealer, blush and liquid eyeshadow.
“If you have nice skin, why cover it all up? Minimal is a good thing,” Jordan said.
He emphasized that fingers are essential tools when applying minimal makeup, allowing better control over the amount of product used.
“Look for products described as ‘glazed,’ ‘butter,’ ‘sheer’ or ‘translucent.’ Sometimes the packaging itself gives you a clue about what’s truly minimal,” Jordan advised.
In this day and age of filters, fillers, and photoshop, there’s something to be said for a look that’s refreshing and real.
