Fancy footwork, high energy, and a unique Detroit style, is what makes up the “Jit” dance. The moves hit Detroit in the 1970’s and are still relevant today.
“It moves everybody,” said Michael Smith, the founder of Jit Masters.
Now the next generation is learning the dance, as well as gaining great opportunities through the “Jit Masters Workforce Program.”
“We’ve been able to partner with a lot of different organizations to employ Detroit’s youth,” said Smith. He said they have employed 30 kids, and they are making money while learning the Jit dance.
Now the kids are showing off their skills and will perform live. The “Pop Out and Jit” event will feature youth and professional Jit dancers.
The event takes place Friday, August 15, at Northwest Activity Center in Detroit.
