Money troubles, lies, and a brotherly bond are put to the test in “Black Rabbit” on Netflix.
Jason Bateman and Jude Law give a new spin to sibling rivalry in the limited series that’s packed with thrills and excitement as the plot delves into a New York underground and the fight to keep a bar called the Black Rabbit open.
Academy-award winning actor Troy Kotsur, known for his role in the movie “CODA,” is not the good guy in this film. The role was specifically written for the actor who is deaf and uses sign language throughout “Black Rabbit.”
“I came up with this bad guy and this villain of Joe Mancuso, and I really wanted to show my range and my acting capability, and not just to be a one-trick pony who happens to be deaf, but just have a really colorful deaf villain, so that’s what I tried to do,” Kotsur said. “An example of how Joe Mancuso communicated was by signing with one hand, not with both of his hands...because maybe in my left hand, I’m holding a gun.”
Kotsur and his on-screen son “Junior,” played by Forrest Weber, are waiting for debts to be paid, or there will be consequences.
“I’m really a hot-headed criminal that is very unexpected and tends to make a lot of rash decisions that send the plot lines in wild directions,” Weber said.
The suspense-filled episodes will have you wondering if the brothers can come up with the money in time. All eight episodes of “Black Rabbit” are streaming now on Netflix.
