A non-surgical procedure could help many knee pain sufferers avoid joint replacement at a time when demand for surgery is expected to surge.
During an appearance on “Live in the D,” Dr. Sol Cogan of the Nerve & Disc Institute outlined a proprietary approach he calls Knee Restore RX, which he says focuses on repairing joint mechanics, regenerating tissue and restoring synovial fluid function.
“I read an article that said by the year 2034, 4.8 million people will require knee surgery,” Cogan said. “There had to be a better way.”
Cogan said the program adapts principles his clinic has used for nearly two decades in spine care. After several years of refining the protocol, he said, “we saw what a great success rate we had - over 90% - and now we’re rolling it out and teaching other people.”
The treatment, according to Cogan, is designed for patients with osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease, as well as partial tears and sprains older than six weeks. “It’s not magic,” he cautioned, noting that complete tears still require surgical care. But he said the goal is to “take people that were bone on bone or near bone on bone and actually get a knee joint back and have them have function,” adding that preventing or at least delaying knee replacement is the aim.
Cogan pointed to research showing dissatisfaction with surgical outcomes to argue for alternatives. “Twenty to 30% of people aren’t happy” after knee replacement, he said. “They don’t last forever. Knees last 15 to 20 years. So, you want to be able to at least kick it down the line as long as you can - or avoid it.”
The Nerve & Disc Institute is offering “Live in the D” viewers a promotion. Cogan announced on air that the first 10 callers receive a free treatment, and all viewers can get 50% off a treatment program through the end of the month.
