Black cats grab a lot of attention when it comes to the Halloween season, but sometimes they get a bad rap.
Lidia Vesterfelt from Michigan Humane appeared on “Live in the D” to clear up some misconceptions about the furry animals. She was joined by a playful 3-month-old kitten named Sprout, who is up for adoption.
The ideas that black cats are less friendly, less healthy, or a bad omen are all myths, Lidia explained.
Instead, she shared the fact that all cats have different personalities based on their temperament and upbringing; the color of their fur does not affect this.
As for their black fur, studies have shown the genetic mutations that cause the color can actually offer some disease protection.
Lastly, many places and cultures see black cats as symbols of good luck, prosperity, and protection.
