Sneak peek of the action on the ice rink at Campus Martius

Rink opens to the public on Nov. 22nd

Skaters will be hitting the ice rink at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit this holiday season.

The rink at Campus Martius presented by Lexus officially opens to the public on Saturday, Nov. 22nd at 11 a.m., but Live In The D’s April Morton got a chance to be among the first on the ice this year during a special preview.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never been on skates before or you’re really experienced. It’s a great rink to learn on, and that’s why Olympians train and come and perform here, and that’s why young kids come out with their skate clubs every year to perform. So, it’s a really special rink,” said David Cowan, the chief public spaces officer with the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

The rink at Campus Martius was voted the best ice skating rink in the country in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards in 2024, and it’s in the running again for 2025.

The rink will open to the public the day after the Detroit tree lighting at Campus Martius. You can watch the Detroit tree lighting during a special Local 4 broadcast on Friday, Nov. 21st at 7 p.m.
