Veterans Memorial Park, Buhr Park ice arenas in Ann Arbor resume limited operations
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Veterans Memorial Park and Buhr Park ice arenas will reopen for limited operations this week, according to the City of Ann Arbor. Starting Wednesday, community members can register for instructional skating programs at the Veterans Memorial Park indoor arena. Open skate at the outdoor Buhr Park ice rink kicks off on Thursday. Buhr Park Ice Arena is at 2751 Packard Rd. Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena is at 2150 Jackson Ave.
Campus Martius Park ice skating rink to reopen Wednesday
DETROIT – The outdoor ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park is reopening Wednesday, Dec. 9, according to Downtown Detroit Partnership. The rink was closed from Nov. 18 through Dec. 8 because of Michigan’s COVID-19 restrictions. The rink is open seven days a week and on holidays. Skaters are required to wear masks or face coverings as well as practice social distancing at all times. Capacity is also limited on the ice rink.
Campus Martius ice skating rink closes amid new COVID restrictions in Michigan
DETROIT – The outdoor ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit will close for at least three weeks due to new coronavirus restrictions ordered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations climb throughout the state, the MDHHS enacted a “three-week pause” that ramps up restrictions for restaurants, bars, high schools, colleges and more. From Nov. 18 through Dec. 8, Michigan restaurants and bars cannot offer indoor dining services. Officials said an update to the order on Thursday extended restrictions to include both indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks. The Rink at Campus Martius Park is slated to reopen on Dec. 9, officials said Thursday.
City of Ann Arbor closes ice rinks for three weeks
ANN ARBOR – The City of Ann Arbor announced Monday the Buhr Park and Veterans Park ice arenas will be closed effective immediately for three weeks, in accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' newest emergency order. Ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park opens to public with changes due to COVID-19
DETROIT – The ice skating rink at Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit opened to the public on Friday. This year, Campus Martius and Cadillac Square are going to look a whole lot different. Frankenmuth pulled their sponsorship from the downtown ice rink because of coronavirus. Instead, the Downtown Detroit partnership plans to support local small businesses in a different way. Detroit’s annual Christmas tree arrived at Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit last week.
Michigan ice rinks allowed to reopen for organized sports
Ice rinks across the state of Michigan are allowed to reopen for organized sports under a new executive order from the governor. Rinks were among the list of venues shuttered across the state for months due to the coronavirus. Some areas of the state already were allowed to have ice rinks operational. As of Thursday, all Michigan ice rinks are now among the list of venues that may be open for the sole purpose of serving as a venue for organized sports.Gov. Ice rinks also wont be allowed to sell concessions.
Ann Arbor ice arena, skating teams fight for reclassification
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Ice arenas and rinks need to be reclassified, say Ann Arbor athletes and Diane Wilson, the general manager of Ann Arbor Ice Cube. To get the Cube and other ice rinks reclassified, Wilson has reached out to Gov. The Ann Arbor Ice Cube, which has three different rinks, is used by different ice skating and hockey teams, including the U.S. National Team, Eastern Michigan University hockey team and four local high school teams. She added that Ann Arbor is the birthplace of synchronized skating and its teams are nationally ranked. Wilson said that even before the pandemic, the Ann Arbor Ice Cube was never at capacity because of its size and that several skaters could be on the ice without problems.
New Lakeside Mall owner unveils plans, including synthetic ice skating rink
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The ownership group that purchased Lakeside Mall last year has big plans for the Sterling Heights shopping center. A synthetic ice skating rink, art installations, food trucks and a pop-up shop market are all planned for the mall, which is one of the largest in the state. The ice skating rink and pop-up market are expected by spring. It’s a new change of pace for the building at Hall and Schoenherr roads. “Partridge Creek is freezing in the winter.”One shop owner, Tony Ansara, hopes the new developments will increase foot traffic to his jewelry store he has owned for 29 years.
