Inboxes are overflowing, schedules are thrown off, and patience is wearing thin. So, what are the unspoken rules of email etiquette this time of the year? It was the topic of discussion during the What’s the Buzz segment on “Live In The D” Monday.
Hosts Tati Amare and Kim DeGiulio were joined by Gabi Crowley who is the host of the “Are You Mad at Me?” podcast and a contributor to the “WorkDaze” newsletter, along with AJ Williams from The Michigan Chronicle.
First up, the group discussed if there are any emails that really need an immediate response this week.
AJ was quick to say “yes,” but only if the emails are related to getting any money, her paycheck, or anything about a bonus.
Gabi explained that there are some emails that need responses.
“Unfortunately, I did send an urgent email this morning, so I’m one of the people,” Gabi confessed.
“Let’s think before we send,” Kim chimed into the conversation.
Next, the conversation shifted outside of work to keeping up with text messages from family and friends.
“I think giving grace to anyone, regardless if it’s a holiday or not. Yes, everyone’s busy. Everyone’s doing, you know, different things in their lives. I’ve been really bad at responding to text messages lately, which is not the usual, so I would like to have a little grace for myself,” Gabi shared.
When it comes to keeping up with text messages, AJ said she thinks it depends on the relationship.
Finally, the group talked about out-of-office messages and if they’re really necessary this time of year. Watch the video above to see the rest of the conversation.
