Are you making the most of your Michigan winter?

January is Discover Michigan Skiing Month

From skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling and even ice climbing, there are so many winter adventures in the Great Lakes State.

“Michigan has the second most ski areas of any state in the country -- more than 40 ski resorts,” explained Nick Nerbonne with Travel Michigan.

January is Discover Michigan Skiing Month, which offers opportunities for the next generation of skiers and snowboarders to get in action. The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association even has a Cold is Cool Passport, which is designed to help get fourth and fifth graders on the slopes.

Of course, skiing is just part of the fun of a Michigan winter. According to Nerbonne, there are 6,500 miles of snowmobile trails to explore, along with opportunities for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

“There are all kinds of winter adventures across the state,” Nerbonne said.
