Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan talks ‘Award Shows’

‘Trending Tuesday’ dives into relevance, other topics related to award shows

It’s the first Live in the D “Trending Tuesday,” of “Award Show Season,” and Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan came to the show to chat about it.

The topics of discussion this time around was the award shows’ relevance, and trends they generate. “We have an award show, food chain, the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys, or the EGOT, those are the big four. Those are the most prestigious. The Golden Globe Awards are just bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press,” Jordan said. He said some other prestigious award shows are, the BAFTAS, the British equivalent of the Oscars, which are bestowed by peers and professionals. Others like Video Music Awards, Country Music Awards, and American Music Awards, are “made up,” he said.

The audiences for many of these shows are really dwindling, according to Jordan, due to streaming and rebroadcast. Jordan believes it’s primarily because you can get all the highlights on social media.
