Things aren’t always as they seem at this new Detroit Museum

Museum of Illusions invites selfies with interactive exhibits

The 3rd Wednesday in January is considered “Museum Selfie Day,” a day started by a London blogger to encourage fun and creative ways to take selfies.

Although, some museums have rules on photography, there’s a brand new one in downtown Detroit that not only welcomes photos, they’re tossing in tons of creative exhibits to take them up a notch.

“It’s illusions, it’s all about the brain and the optical,” Jennifer Fransen, General Manager of the Museum of Illusions Detroit told Live in the D Reporter, April Morton. The museum, located on Woodward, opened in late 2025, and is already getting a lot of buzz, according to Fransen. There are over 60 interactive exhibits in the over 9,000 sq. ft. museum. “It’s self-guided, interactive, where you can touch exhibits, you can see exhibits.”

April Morton stopped by for a glimpse of what guests can expect when visiting. To see the full segment, please click the video above.
