The GenX Takeover Comedy Tour is making its next stop in Michigan, hosting a show Saturday, Jan. 30th at the Music Hall Center in downtown Detroit.
Comedian and social media sensation Sherri Dindal brought her charming and versatile self to Live in the D to discuss the tour and her path to success.
Beginning her career as an investigator in Detroit, she adopted the nickname “The Real Slim Sherri,” which has since become an integral part of her identity.
“I was the Real Slim Sherri, and it just stuck,” explained Dindal. “It stuck with me as I got into social media because I just like to keep it real. It’s a little nod to Eminem, but not all of it.”
After over 25 years as an investigator, she began to embrace being herself and break away from the traditional societal expectations. Resonating with many other women in midlife who felt lost or held down, she amassed more than 5.7 million followers across all platforms, bringing her comedy and real discussions growing up in the Gen X era.
Dindal is now a part of the GenX Takeover Comedy Tour, where popular social media stars and comedians take the stage including The Dadbod Veteran Joe Wellington, Professor Nick Harrison, and Kelly Manno. The four stars bring their stories and comedy together, featuring laughter, dancing, and some singing.
“There’s a little bit of everything,” said Dindal. “It’s real life now, there’s some nod to our childhood, how we grew up feral, and kind of taking care of ourselves, but there’s a little bit of present, there’s a little bit of past, it’s really a show for anybody.”
