With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love is in the air. Whether you’re planning a romantic night out, a Galentine’s dinner, or swiping your way through dating apps, this time of year can bring up one big question: Is this love, or is this a red flag?
So for the What’s the Buzz segment on Monday, the conversation centered on dating scenarios and determining whether they should be considered red flags.
“Live In The D” hosts Tati Amare and Kim DeGiulio were joined by friends of the show Lauren Crocker from “Blaine and Lauren” on 96.3 WDVD and AJ Williams with the Michigan Chronicle.
Scenario 1:
You’re on a first date and they’re constantly checking their phone - texting, scrolling, even taking a call.
The group was unanimous in calling this a red flag.
“No! Get off the phone!” Lauren said. “This is your first impression, and you can’t give me an hour?” she exclaimed.
Scenario 2:
They bring up their ex on the first date - not just once, but multiple times.
Again, the group considered this to be a red flag.
“I think it’s very important to kind of explore a context of why did you guys break up or what happened in your last relationship. Just -- that’s heavy on the first date,” AJ said.
Scenario 3:
After just one date, they’re already talking about future trips and meeting your family.
Kim and Lauren called this a green flag.
"I wish I could say no, but I’m a hopeless romantic," Lauren said.
Tati put it right in the middle. Meanwhile, AJ considered this a red flag.
“I think timing is very key...Love bombing is a real thing,” AJ said.
Scenario 4:
They’re charming to you, but rude to the waiter or bartender.
The ladies all considered this to be a red flag.
“That means you’re just putting on a front to me. That’s really who you are,” AJ explained.
Scenario 5:
They suggest splitting the bill when the check comes.
The group called this a red flag, but Lauren was mixed on her reaction.
“I feel like I want to be very like modern girl power. Like, I can pay for myself, but I’m trying to think of myself back in my dating days,” Lauren said.
Scenario 6:
Before the second date, they’ve already liked your old Instagram photos from three years ago.
Tati called it “weird.” However, Kim and AJ categorized it as a green flag.
