As families brace for the annual back-to-school spending surge, Verizon is rolling out a slate of connected devices and discounted plans aimed at keeping kids safe - and parents sane.
At the center of the pitch is the newly launched GizmoWatch 4, a kids’ smartwatch that Verizon Tech Expert Jeff Kew says is one of the hottest items parents are asking for right now.
“One of the biggest tech items we’re seeing that parents are really demanding right now is the new GizmoWatch 4,” Kew said during an appearance on Live in the D.
The watch, designed for children roughly 8 to 10 years old, “gives parents the ability to connect with their kids” through calls, texts, and GPS location tracking. Parents can also set geo-fences around their neighborhood - “setting up a boundary in your neighborhood,” as Kew described it - so that “it alerts you if they go outside that boundary.” The device will also notify parents if the watch is removed.
For older kids, Kew pointed to the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, calling it “the most durable watch that I know of on the market.” The device features a “titanium body” and is rated to withstand depths of 300 feet underwater.
On the cost front, Kew was emphatic that parents don’t need to break the bank to stay connected. Adding the GizmoWatch to an existing plan costs just $15 a month because “you’re not adding a full phone line onto your plan either” - and for a limited time, Verizon is offering the watch at no additional device cost.
For families considering a carrier switch, Kew outlined two options under Verizon’s new Simplicity Plan. “If you get a new phone or you get a new line, it’s $45 per month on the Simplicity Plan,” he said. “If you are not a Verizon customer and you’re coming over, for a limited time, $30 for a line right now.”
A bundled home internet option is also available, combining a phone line and home internet service for $70 per month for eligible customers.
Kew also highlighted a kids bundle that pairs the GizmoWatch 4 with a Samsung tablet, as well as a Samsung promotion that includes a free watch and tablet with the purchase of a Galaxy S26 smartphone.
