WARREN, Mich. – A Warren man is currently in custody facing a multitude of charges in two counties, including sexually assaulting a child and child pornography.
The charges are especially shocking, given that he was a teacher for years.
“You have to wonder how long has this been going on,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said on Wednesday. “Who’s it been going on with?”
“All these questions are still being investigated because the investigation never closes until we receive everything back from the search,” he said.
The charges are connected to Mark Sharrow, a teacher at the Warren Consolidated School of Performing Arts in Sterling Heights since 2017. The allegations began nearly 200 miles away in Roscommon County.
Prosecutors there say that Sharrow, 37, sexually assaulted a teenager in 2025 in Denton, Mich., which is near Houghton Lake.
They say the assaults happened between April and September.
In Roscommon County, Sharrow has been charged with six felonies, including first and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to court documents, an arrest warrant was first issued on Aug. 12.
During a search of Sharrow’s home in Warren on Aug. 18, police say they found sexually explicit videos of minors on his cell phone – along with methamphetamine and LSD – leading to his arrest.
He was then charged with nearly a dozen additional crimes in Macomb County.
In Macomb County, Sharrow is facing five counts each of possessing child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime.
He also faces one count each of possession of methamphetamine and LSD.
On Sept., 14, Sharrow was given three additional charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct, including two 4th-degree charges and an assault charge.
A spokesman for the Warren Consolidated School District said Sharrow was on administrative leave at the time of the arrest and that they are cooperating with the Macomb County Prosecutor.
In total, on the charges in Roscommon County alone, Sharrow could face life in prison on the 1st Degree CSC charge.
As for the charges in Macomb County, Lucido said the investigation continues and could yield more, while adding that Sharrow is innocent until proven guilty.
“Although the charges are monumental, he does have a right to defend himself,” Lucido said. “But at the end of the day, if he’s found guilty, that’s a whole nother world that plays out.”
Local 4 reached out to Joshua West, Sharrow’s attorney, but we have yet to get a response.
Sharrow is due back in 37th District Court on the new charges in Macomb County on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
He’s currently being held at the Macomb County Jail on a $1 million bond.
