‘Car Stars’ Musical celebrates Detroit’s auto legacy

Playwright Janet Pound draws inspiration from Detroit's auto shows and history

Rochester – A new musical is coming to Meadow Brook Theatre, celebrating the Motor City in a unique way. It’s called “Car Stars,” and features original songs, and has a story that highlights Detroit’s grit.

Cast member, Lou Beatty Jr., and Playwright, Lyricist, and Producer, Janet Pound, stopped by “Live in the D,” to chat about the production.

“I wrote just a funny comedy about auto shows because I had done them for 10 years, and my neighbor had a premonition, she said.

Pound said no one had really done this in a musical, and no other city or industry in the world did as much for creating a middle class, helping win World War II, and uplifting wages and working conditions.

The musical is running August 21-23 at Meadow Brook Hall Theatre in Rochester. Tickets are $40.49.
