Alex Synclair doesn’t hide behind his music. The Detroit-area singer-songwriter stopped by Live in the D’s Music Monday segment this week to share his latest original, “Beautiful” - a swooning, heartfelt ballad about the kind of love that brings a person to their knees.
For Synclair, the emotional transparency in his music is entirely intentional.
“I’ve always just worn my heart on my sleeve,” he said. “Being authentic, being real, and pouring my heart out in every performance is really what’s important to me.”
Synclair cites indie folk star Noah Kahn as a primary influence, drawn to performers who give everything on stage. It’s a philosophy he stumbled into himself just a couple of years ago, after a chance audition with a band he found on Facebook turned into something he never expected.
“They just threw me up on stage and ever since then I’ve been in love,” he said.
That love for performing is on full display in “Beautiful,” a lush, aching song built around the chorus: “Baby, how’d you get so beautiful? My knees are growing weak.” The track showcases Synclair’s ability to marry vulnerability with melody, a hallmark of the honest storytelling that has come to define his sound.
Fans can catch Synclair live on Oct. 9 at Parts and Labor in Melvindale, where he’ll perform alongside his band, The Feisty Birds, as part of Twang Night.
