If you’re thinking about hitting the road for your next adventure, the Fall Detroit RV and Camping Show is showcasing plenty of ways to do it.
The 37th annual show begins Wednesday September 30th at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi and runs through Oct. 4, with hundreds of RVs, campers and camping products on display.
Among the highlights this year is the return of toy haulers, a type of RV that combines living space with a built-in garage for hauling recreational equipment.
Jeff Shumway of Bish’s RV said the design gives campers more freedom to bring along motorcycles, ATVs and other gear without giving up the comforts of home.
The rear garage area can also be transformed into an outdoor deck once the equipment is unloaded. Inside, the RVs feature amenities such as beds, kitchens and bathrooms.
Prices for toy haulers start at around $33,000, with some financing options available for less than $300 a month.
A smaller RV with big features
Another standout at this year’s show is the growing category of compact adventure vans.
The Grand Design Lineage LVT1, displayed by General RV Center, is built on a Ford Transit all-wheel-drive chassis and packs a surprising number of features into a relatively small space.
The van includes a full bathroom, induction cooktop and modular fold-down bed, along with the ability to handle off-road adventures.
Daniel Moore of General RV said the vehicle is designed to offer many of the comforts of a larger RV while remaining easy to drive and park.
Because it’s built on a Ford Transit chassis, Moore said drivers can handle it much like a traditional vehicle and park it in a standard parking space.
Special events and deals
The show also features special promotions and family-friendly events throughout the week.
Wednesday includes free parking, while Thursday offers buy-one-get-one ticket deals. Friday is Kids Night, with special activities from 5 to 9 p.m.
Admission is $12 for visitors ages 13 and older, $11 for seniors 55 and older, and free for children 12 and under.
