Couple shot after altercation in Downtown Detroit, police say

Victims were innocent bystanders

DETROIT – A fight between two groups of people near Greektown ended with gunfire and a couple being shot.

The gunfire erupted about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Beaubian and Congress, near St. Andrews Hall and Legends in Downtown Detroit.

Detroit police said the couple, a 42-year-old man who was shot in the stomach and a 48-year-old woman who suffered graze wounds to her arm and thigh, were innocent bystanders.

Greektown and the Renaissance Center are just a block away from where the shooting took place.

Detroit police said two groups of people got into a fight and someone pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Nearby businesses have surveillance video, but at this time it’s not clear which direction the two groups took off in after the pair were shot.

Police said both victims were treated at an area hospital and released.

Detroit police are asking anyone with information about the incident to give them a call.
