Golf Tip: Be Chipper All The Time!

Golf Tips With Bob Krause

Marilyn Stratton from Pellston, MI wrote to me asking how she can become a more consistent chipper.

In order to become a consistent chipper you need to pay attention to a couple of things; rhythm and the distance you carry the ball with each club you use, based on the shot your going to play.

For example if you select a pitching wedge to hit a chip, you need to know how far it will carry so that you can pick an appropriate spot on the green to get the ball close to the pin.

Here is the best method I have developed to make everyone a more consistent and better chipper:

Visualize a clock with you standing in the middle. Your head is twelve o'clock and your feet are six o'clock. Now grab your wedges and a pen and paper so you can write down how far you carry each wedge.

Take the club back stopping at three o'clock and follow through until you reach nine o'clock, and write down your carry distance. Now hit another shot and stopping at four o'clock and following through to eight o'clock; write down the distance.

Finally, hit another shot stopping at five o'clock and following through to seven o'clock; write it down.

If you use this method with each wedge figuring how far each club carries based on how far you take the club back and forth, it will be much easier to select the correct shot, thus becoming a better chipper of the ball.

Hope this helps Marilyn and good luck!
