Mary Dettloff of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said coyotes can be seen in many parts of the state.
The animals, which are sometimes confused as dogs, are typically 3-and-a-half feet long, or about the size of small German shepherd, Dettloff told The Voice News.
Measures can be taken, Dettloff told The Voice, such as delaying setting garbage curbside as long as possible, and keeping areas free of brush and shrubbery, where the small mammals coyotes prey upon often reside. Pet owners may also want to keep a closer eye on animals and resist leaving food outdoors, Dettloff advised.
