Detroit Mother Killed When Car Slams Into Tree

Nicole McKinley Killed, Boyfriend Thrown From Car Near Rohns, Buel Streets

DETROIT – A 23-year-old mother was killed Sunday morning when the car she was riding in slammed into a tree on Detroit's east side.

Nicole McKinley was inside the car driven by her boyfriend, 21-year-old Norman Jones, when it crashed about 2 a.m. near Rohns and Buel streets. Witnesses said the car was speeding, jumped a curb and wrapped around the tree.

McKinley was killed instantly. Jones was thrown from the car and taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where his condition was unknown.

McKinley has a 4-year-old daughter.

Detroit police are investigating.
