Inmate Arraigned In Plot To Kidnap Rep. Barb Byrum

A 43-year old inmate at Baraga Correctional Facility in the Upper Peninsula has been arraigned on a charge that he tried to arrange a kidnapping and murder-for-hire plot targeting Democratic state Rep. Barb Byrum.

Larry Taylor is charged with solicitation of murder, which could carry up to a life sentence.

Taylor is already jailed for a similar offense.

Investigators say Taylor's plan was to kidnap Byrum and gain the leverage needed to get Gov. Rick Snyder to release him from prison and pay the $9,700 he owes in restitution.

The DOC notified MSP and the groups set up a sting operation inside the prison.

An MSP officer went undercover and the prisoner proposed the kidnapping plot to him.
