Man killed walking children to school in Redford Township

28-year-old Gerome Ford killed Wednesday morning

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 28-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in Redford Township when he was hit by a car while escorting two children to school.

Police said it appears Germaine Ford accidentally stepped into the path of an oncoming car on Telegraph Road near Plymouth Road at about 8 a.m.

Ford's fiancee's children, boys, ages 9 and 12, saw everything.

The grandmother of the children, Maime Plummer, said it was one of the children who reported the incident.

"One of the grandkids got his cell phone when he was hit, picked up his phone and called his mom," she said.

Police said it looks like Germaine got caught by the flashing warning light.

Police said a semi-truck in the middle lane obscured Germaine's vision and he didn't see the oncoming car as the light on southbound Telegraph turned red.

Late Wednesday morning his family put up a small memorial of balloons.
