Owner of Hazel Park auto repair business arrested

Charged with running chop shop

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – The owner of Hazel Park's Parkway Auto Parts and Service shop is charged with operating a chop shop after someone recognized a stolen car being towed from the business.

Police arrested 25-year-old Christopher Moride, of Shelby Township, after finding a second stolen car on the premises along with several engines and transmissions which may also have been stolen.

Police were tipped off to the operation by a man who runs a Detroit auto repair business from which several vehicles had been stolen the previous Wednesday.

That man recognized a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu being towed from the Hazel Park shop as one of the vehicles stolen from his lot. The Vehicle Identification Number of the Malibu matched.

Moride was freed on $5,000 bond. He is due back in court Feb. 21 for a preliminary examination.
