Royal Oak LA Fitness hit by several car break-ins

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Police in Royal Oak are investigating a string of car break-ins at a gym parking lot.

Police said while gym patrons are inside working out at the LA Fitness thieves are breaking into their cars.

There have been four reports this week of car break-ins at the gym over a four-day period. On Monday alone, police received three reports in which victims came out of the fitness center to find their car windows shattered and items such as purses stolen.

"You think it's comfortable because we pay so much for initiation and registration," said gym member Mike Ellington. "You think it's safe. But obviously it's not."

Police are beefing up patrols and customers are asking the gym to provide extra security.

"They should have some more security," said Ellington. "Some cameras at least."
