DETROIT – Two people are in custody following the deadly stabbing of a 22-year-old man on Detroit's west side Thursday morning.
Neighbors in the 18000 block of Schoolcraft said they were stunned to hear screams coming from an apartment around 3 a.m.
"It was horrifying. I didn't know what had happened. I heard him screaming, that's all I heard," said one neighbor, who asked not to be identified. "I didn't know at the time he was losing his life."
Police sources said someone broke down the door to apartment No. 8 before opening fire.
"I saw five people, two women, a man and two other girls go through the yard here. They said, ‘I got this (expletive), I got that (expletive),'" the neighbor said. "I couldn't see the faces because it was dark."
Family and friends at the scene identified the victim as Kiewone Watkins. They said a jealous ex-girlfriend may be the one to blame for his death.
"He told me he was having problems with his ex. I didn't know it was that serious," said Barry Carlyle, who said he was Watkins' best friend. "I just gave him his last haircut last night. It's just shocking to me right now."
Carlyle said Watkins had an artificial leg he took off at night.
"He had no way of really defending himself, even if there was one of them," he said.
A 41-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman are in custody.
