Clinton Township clerk under fire

Township workers, residents push for George Fitzgerald to resign

CLINTON TWP., Mich. – A number of Clinton Township workers are pushing for the clerk to resign.

The push to get George Fitzgerald out comes amid allegations of harassment and wrongdoing by city workers. In one case, a group of women asked a police officer to monitor the office because Fitzgerald carries a gun to work.

Monday night city workers and citizens pleaded for Fitzgerald to step down during a township meeting.

The issue could head to the Governor's office if Fitzgerald does not resign and the board wants to get rid of him. Governor Rick Snyder is the only one with the power to get Fitzgerald out of office.

Fitzgerald was elected into office in 2008. He is up for reelection this year.
