Thieves use mallet to rob Rochester jewelry store

Men get away with Rolex watches from Lucido Fine Jewelry

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Jewelry thieves have used the Rochester Road construction project to their advantage in a Rolex watch heist.

Local 4 has obtained pictures and video from the crime, which happened Saturday afternoon.

Two young men walked into Lucido Fine Jewery on South Main in Rochester and went right up to the case with the most expensive Rolex watches.

One man took out a mallet and smashed the case.

Both men ran out the front door with three watches.

Owner Vince Lucido said the watches are valued at more than $100,000.

"This effects everyone in Rochester. Not just us," Lucido said.

The men ran right out to the main road that's under construction, likely believing it would take police time to respond though the traffic back ups.

They had a car waiting a few blocks away in the neighborhood behind the store. Employees ran after them and got a good look at that car.

Police later found the car in Detroit.

"Our people are terrific. They took it very personally and so did I. This is a terrible thing," Lucido told Local 4 News.

No one was hurt and police have yet to make any arrests.

The thieves' faces and the clothing they had on can be seen in the video and police hope someone will recognize them.

As for the expensive watches, they've been flagged as "stolen" by Rolex. Anyone that takes the watch into a store for repair will have it confiscated on the spot.
