Livonia water tower leaks, floods nearby yards

LIVONIA, Mich. – Water has stopped spewing out of a million-gallon water tower in Livonia.

Sky 4 was over the scene Tuesday as water seeped into nearby yards in the area of West Chicago near Middlebelt Road.

A spokesperson for the Livonia Department of Public Works told Local 4 the tank is owned by the Detroit Water and Sewage Department.

Local 4 has learned an intake valve in the tower was stuck in the open position. Repairs to the valve were completed just before 3 p.m. and water stopped leaking from the tower.

The tank is part of the area's water distribution system.
