SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Police say a 38-year-old man died while working on his dump truck in suburban Detroit.

Southfield police said in a statement that officers responded about 9:40 a.m. Monday to a report of an unresponsive man underneath the parked truck.

A preliminary investigation found that the man apparently was under the engine compartment of the vehicle, working on the truck, when his clothing got caught in the drive shaft.

Police say the man was killed.

The accident happened near 12 Mile Road and Pierce in Southfield.

The man was identified as being from Detroit. Additional information including the man's name wasn't immediately released.
