Man arrested for accidentally shooting driver through front seat of car

Hamilton turned himself in Thursday

MT. CLEMENS, Mich. – A 21-year-old man from Mt. Clemens has been charged for the accidental shooting of a 20-year-old man found in the parking lot of Mt. Clemens High School.

Police say that the victim had been driving on Orchard Street in a Pontiak Aztek when Lasail Hamilton, who was in the back seat, accidentally shot a handgun, firing a single shot. The bullet went through the front seat and hit the driver in the back.

The victim drove to Mt. Clemens High School where he got out of the car and was found by school security officials. Hamilton ran from the scene before police arrived. He turned himself in Thursday.

Hamilton was arraigned on Thursday and charged with firearms possession by a convicted felon, careless discharge causing injury, felony firearms and failure to stop and render assistance. His next court date is October 8.
