Claude Monet painting to hit auction block in Detroit

'Lily Pond' estimated to sell between $40,000-$60,000

DETROIT – For 60 years, Claude Monet's 1910 "Lily Pond" painting has been held in a private Bloomfield Hills collection. But now, after the passing of its owners, it will hit the auction block in Detroit.

"We're getting calls from people wanting experts to examine it. It's really happening," DuMochelle Gallery auctioneer  Bob DuMochelle said.

Six weeks ago in London, five original Monet works of art fetched $84 million. Six more that are slated to go to auction in New York next month could sell for $110 million.
"Lily Pond" was originally owned by a close Monet friend.

DuMochelle estimates "Lily Pond" at $40,000 to $60,000.
