Woman robbed, attacked in St. Clair Shores grocery store parking lot

Police: Robber hits woman in head, takes off with purse, wedding rings

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A 45-year-old woman lost her most-prized possession after telling her attacker she didn't have any money at a grocery store.

It happened around 12:40 p.m. Saturday at the Kroger supermarket on Harper Avenue at 13 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.

The woman was getting out of her car when a young man approached her and demanded her purse, police said.

The purse was apparently not enough; the man then forced the woman to give up her wedding ring.

During the robbery, the man hit the woman over the head with an object, police said.

The robber fled east to the Wendy's parking lot, where he got into a silver Cadillac and left the area, police said.

Police described the robber as a black male, 17 or 18 years old, and wearing a gray sweatshirt, black jeans and a black baseball cap with "Detroit" on the front.

Police are looking at surveillance video from businesses near the grocery store.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Claire Shores police at 586-445-5300 ext. 1 or the investigative unit at 586-445-5300.
