Officer on leave pending outcome of investigation by Michigan State Police

GIBRALTAR, Mich. – A Gibraltar police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of a man who died after a Taser was used to subdue him.

In a statement, the police department said officers responded to call just after 3 a.m. Thursday in the 14000 block of Gibraltar Road for a man that was "out of control."

While trying to take the man into custody, a Taser was used.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Sources have identified him as 39-year-old David Kapucinski.

"Preliminary investigation shows all department policies and procedures in this incident were followed and the officers' use of force was justified," the police department's statement said.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation.
