Officer, 2 others injured after speeding car hits tree, bursts into flames

DETROIT – Detroit police say three people were injured Monday when a car traveling over at least 80 mph on Mound Road hit a tree and burst into flames near McNichols Road.
Police saw the car near the Mound Correctional Facility at Davidson Street and report that it was heading south at a high speed. Before the unit could pursue the car, the driver lost control and ran into the tree.
Two people that were in the car during the accident were removed from the car by police and taken to a local hospital by EMS.
Local 4 has learned that an officer was injured while rescuing the two people from the burning car. That officer is listed in temporary serious condition.
