Michigan Democrats statement on gay marriage

Today Michigan Democrats released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality:

"Today's ruling in favor of marriage equality is a big step forward for the LGBT community nationwide but especially here in Michigan where our attorney general has consistently fought against the right of same-sex couples to marry," said Mark LaChey, Michigan Democratic Party LGBT and Allies Caucus Chair. "We recognize, however, that this is only the beginning of our fight. Even with today's ruling, "married on Sunday, fired on Monday" remains the legal reality for LGBT Michiganders. Moving forward, we will not only fight against the current effort by Republicans in Lansing to blunt the effect of today's decision but also to push for full social and economic equality for all of us who call this great state our home."
