Armed man shot by police on Detroit's west side
Man is expected to survive
DETROIT – A 59-year-old man was shot by police after he waved a gun at them Friday night on Detroit's west side, according to police.
The shooting happened at Joy Road and Artesian Street.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at a Coney Island on the corner of Grandville Avenue and Joy Road.
Officers found the man and asked him to drop the gun. The man began pointing the weapon at officers.
Three officers fired shots striking the man five times in various parts of his body.
No officers were injured.
The man is in critical condition, but is expected to recover.
The officers involved in the shooting were taken to homicide where they will be interviewed.
