A preliminary investigation found that the teen was driving a blue-and-black 2021 Polaris Ranger in a private field south of Taft Road with two juvenile passengers.
Police said the driver, a Petersburg resident, was negotiating a curve when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the main path.
As he attempted to correct its direction, the Polaris overturned onto its left side, ejecting all three occupants, officials said.
The 16-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the two juvenile passengers were treated at the scene and released, but were later taken by their parents to a Metro Detroit hospital as a precaution.
Officials said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Police said none of the three occupants was wearing a seat belt at the time of the rollover.
The crash remains under investigation by Lt. Brian Quinn and Deputies Cody Carena and Hunter Chirillo of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
