FERNDALE, Mich. – A deadly drug overdose last year prompted a local and federal police investigation at the 8 Wood Motel in Ferndale.
A man's body was found dumped on the front lawn of Ferndale home. The police chief said the drugs were bought at the motel.
Now, neighbors say the motel has to go. Those who have lived near the motel for years said they have seen it all: break-ins, prostitution and drug deals.
Neighbors said prostitutes openly solicit customers at the motel, and they've seen drug dealers stand watch on the corner.
Ferndale police said the motel is a drain on the department's resources. Over the past three years, police have made more than 70 runs to the 8 Wood Motel.
City Council agrees not to renew motel's license
On Monday, Chief Tim Collins recommended Ferndale City Council not renew the motel's license. The council agreed.
The motel owner has a month to appeal the City Council's decision.
Meanwhile, just down the street is Motorama Motel. Chief Collins succeeded in convincing City Council not to renew its license back in February. It was for all the same reasons. Motorama's owner lost his appeal.
