Family Dollar robbed at gunpoint on Detroit's west side

Police: 2 in custody

DETROIT – Detroit police have arrested two suspects after a Family Dollar store was robbed at gunpoint last week on Detroit’s west side.

The store in the 15000 block of 7 Mile Road was robbed March 22 by a man and a woman at about 7 p.m. They demanded money from the cash register and when the 36-year-old store manager attempted to open the register, one of the robbers hit her over the head with a handgun.

The register was stuck and the robbers became impatient, pistol-whipping the clerk numerous times.

“She was adamant about it,” Selicia, the clerk, said. “She just kept telling him to shoot me.”

She was treated at the hospital.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register.

“I’m a nervous wreck when I’m at work now, but I’ve got to come to work because I’ve got bills to pay,” Selicia said.

A man and a woman are in custody, police said Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 12th Precinct or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
