INKSTER, Mich. – A man and his girlfriend were charged Monday in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy in Inkster, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Aurelio R. Smith, 41, and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Andrea A. Bracy, both of Inkster, are charged with felony murder, torture and first-degree child abuse.
Smith’s infant son, Tyme Smith, died Oct. 13. The medical examiner found that the child died from blunt-force trauma to his body and his death was ruled a homicide.
Police were called to a Garden City Hospital on a report of suspected child abuse after Smith and Bracy took the boy in for treatment.
The boy was assaulted in an apartment in the 1550 block of Inkster Road, authorities said. Neighbors said the family moved into the apartment a short time ago.
Smith and Bracy were arraigned Monday.
