A historic restaurant in Birmingham, Michigan faced demolition on Tuesday after closing in July 2016.
Peabody's closed on July 30, 2016 after four decades in Birmingham.
History: Once the site of Park Smith’s gristmill, where lumber was cut and farm implements repaired, Peabody’s began as the local fruit market in 1946. Miles of apple, peach and pear orchards, maintained by Stan and Louise Peabody, supplied Peabody’s Market, the original farm to table movement that served Birmingham and surrounding communities for twenty-nine years.
In 1975, son, Jim Peabody, fulfilled his dream of creating a fine restaurant and gathering place, and converted the famous barn structure into Peabody’s Fine Foods and Wet Goods. His daughters, Nancy, Susan and Barbara, joined Jim in this new endeavor.
Four decades later, Peabody’s Restaurant has evolved into the heart of the Birmingham community. With modern American fare and spirits, we work tirelessly to craft wonderful food and create a memorable dining experience for the Michigan community.
While the core of our business will always remain deeply rooted in the Peabody’s tradition of providing an affordable, upscale dining experience, we continue to innovate: in the kitchen, in hosting group events, and in our dedication to perfecting the Peabody’s brand of hospitality.
