Man shot, killed by ex-girlfriend's brother during home invasion on Detroit's west side

21-year-old man shot while breaking into ex-girlfriend's home, police say

DETROIT – A man was shot and killed Tuesday morning by his ex-girlfriend’s brother when he broke into her home, police said.

According to police, the 21-year-old man was armed when he kicked in the door of his 31-year-old ex-girlfriend’s apartment at 8:10 a.m. in the 3900 block of Wabash Street on Detroit’s west side.

Her 32-year-old brother shot the man multiple times in the chest, killing him, police said.

The ex-boyfriend’s car was left running in the street.

According to police and neighbors, the man had been stalking his ex, and is a case of domestic violence that had been going on for too long.

"It's very sad that he had to lose his life to a relationship that he didn't want to break up," a neighbor said.

Neighbors said the woman hasn’t lived at the apartment for long, but her garage door and window already have scratches and dents caused last week by her ex-boyfriend.

"I have seen him come over, breaking up the property, disturbing the neighbors, beating on her," the neighbor said. "We had to call the police several times."

Police have recovered both guns and are continuing to investigate.

There is no information on whether any charges will be filed.
