BEIJING – A Delta flight 188 from Beijing to Detroit was forced to turn back Friday after flames shot out of one of the plane’s engines.
A spokesperson for Delta said a compressor stalled in the engine while the plane was climbing.
According to Delta, the flight returned to Beijing as a precaution. No injuries or additional incidents were reported.
"Honestly, on the plane we didn't know," said Michelle Gaydos, a passenger on the plane. "We heard a loud bang, so we knew something wasn't right. I really give the crew a lot of credit. They stayed calm and therefore we did as well."
Passengers were given food and hotel accommodations, and were put on a new flight that is expected to arrive in Detroit Saturday night.
