ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The daughters of the couple killed in an Orion Township house explosion are setting the record straight about what happened.
For the first time, Kathy and Bruce Dominguez's daughters are addressing the public as they cope with the loss of their parents.
Last week, the family's home exploded and the 65-year-old man and 57-year-old woman didn't make it out. Now the daughters are thanking the community for the massive show of support, and they're hoping to put some rumors to rest.
"We were our parents' pride and joy, and they did everything for us," Angelyn Dominguez said.
Angelyn and Joice Dominguez went in front of cameras Monday to express their love for their parents.
"They loved our German shepherd like she was our sister," Angelyn Dominguez said. "Our mom loved the Broncos and our dad was a caring father who built that house just for us."
"Mom was the most caring person in the entire world," Joice Dominguez said. "She was the complete opposite of dad, but they fit perfect together."
Their parents were killed when their home exploded. Their sister, Kimberly Dominguez, 29, made it out of the house.
"Kimberly was rescued by a heroic neighbor as she was not able to escape the home on her own," Angelyn Dominguez said. "She did not run out before the explosion. She's doing well physically, but will be dealing with this for some time to come.
"He's not an avid gun collector and he did not store gunpowder."
The sisters wanted to put swirling rumors about the explosion to rest, but they're asking for privacy during the difficult time.
"Please show respect for our loss and family by not driving past our home just to stare and take photos," Angelyn Dominguez said.
They said they're depending on each other after the devastating loss.
"We're all closer," Joice Dominguez said. "Yes, it was terrible circumstances to get closer, but we're all helping each other."
The Dominguez sisters are inviting the public to a visitation for their parents Thursday at Woodside Church in Lake Orion at 2500 Joslyn Road from 3 to 7 p.m. There's a celebration of life at the church at 7 p.m.
