Westland couple arrested for burglary of Merri-Bowl Lanes in Livonia

LIVONIA, Mich. – Livonia police have arrested a couple from Westland in connection with the burglary of Merri-Bowl Lanes.

Michael Kowalski and Rita Cracchiolo, both 43, are accused of breaking into an ATM at the Livonia bowling alley Aug. 15.

Police stopped Cracchiolo's vehicle in the early morning hours of Aug. 16 and linked the couple to the break-in and burglary.

Livonia police took Kowalski into custody after they saw him breaking into a Canton Township business Sept. 1.

Investigators have linked Kowalski to several other business burglaries in recent months in other communities.

Cracchiolo was arrested at the couple's Westland apartment while a search warrant was executed following Kowalski's arrest.

Kowalski and Cracchiolo are charged with breaking and entering, larceny in a building and possession of a burglar's tools.

Kowalski is also charged with habitual offender -- fourth offense.

Kowalski is being held on $1 million bail, and Cracchiolo is being held on $50,000 bail.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for Sept. 21.
